Biografhy

The story of Silentium goes back to December 1995 into the ashes of a death/gothic metal band called Funeral. From the remains of Funeral, keyboardist Sami Boman and original vocalist Matti Aikio created Silentium by adding violin player Jani Laaksonen, guitar players Toni Lahtinen & Juha Lehtioksa and drummer Jari Ojala into the line-up.

Silentium's first recording was the four-song-demo-tape Illacrimó which was released in the end of year 1996. Their second, six-song Ep-tape Caméne Misera was released in 1998 and featured female vocals by Tiina Lehvonen who then became a permanent member of the band. This second tape caught the attention of Sami Tenetz who was at the time setting up his record label Spikefarm. After some negotiations Silentium signed a deal with Spikefarm and their first Spike-release Infinita Plango Vulnera in 1999 had the honor of becoming Spikefarm's first CD, NAULA001. The record also introduced the new drummer, Janne Ojala.

Infinita Plango Vulnera got extremely good feedback, pleasing goths worldwide, as did its successors, the 2001 CD Altum and it's little sister, the SI.VM E.T A.V.VM mini-CD.

Sufferion’s feedback was as expected; some loved and some couldn’t stand the idea of music and radio play. Every listener was touched someway and the long awaited gigs started to appear in the tour list. After the good start came a kick in the teeth: drummer Janne Ojala announced he’s got a lack of motivation and is leaving the band. Also Laaksonen and Anna Ilveskoski, who already gained the status of permanent vocalist, left and the whole band lived on the edge for awhile. But the guys didn’t want to give up and the help was found surprisingly near; the original drummer Jari Ojala was willing to join in again and Riina Rinkinen gave her amazing voice to the band.

Silentium changed the record label also. In the 2005 they signed to the Finnish Dynamic Arts Records company and in the spring of 2005 it was time to head towards studio Sundi Coop. During the intense month they recorded material for the Silentium’s fourth full-length CD, Seducia, but also for their first single release, Frostnight. In these records can also be heard the change of violin to the cello played by Elias Kahila and the sound of Silentium has only completed from before.

The year 2006 came out to be bigger than ever; welcome for the Seducia was quite good and the fuss began to grow. The band had more touring than ever before and this time outside Finland also. Silentium had a gig in Romania with Amorphis and HIM and the welcome was just amazing. The country and the fans really knocked the band off their feet and they gave their absolute best for the sunny Sibiu. Few months after that came the news of a Silentium song being the part of the Portuguese film and the power play of Silentium in the radio. And all that time the band toured inside Finland and visited new venues and met new fans

Band history

Edenbridge was formed in 1998 by guitarist and keyboardist Lanvall, bassist Kurt Bednarsky and vocalist Sabine Edelsbacher. The line-up was completed when drummer Roland Navrati joined the band. Edenbridge quickly set to work, and entered the recording studio in 1999, and signed a recording deal with Massacre Records the very same year. The album, named Sunrise in Eden was released in the autumn of 2000.

The band added a second guitarist, Georg Edelmann, to its line-up in February, 2000, but his stay with the band was to be a short one. When he left in January, 2001, he was replaced by Andreas Eiblar. Under this line-up, Edenbridge released the album Arcana (2001). During a tour in 2002, Edenbridge's bassist and founding member Kurt Bednarsky left the band. In November the same year, the album Aphelion (2002) was released. Their next album, recorded live and entitled A Livetime In Eden was released in August 2004 two years later, followed shortly by Shine in October. At this time, a new bassist, Frank Bindig, joined the band. In December the same year, guitarist Andreas Eibler left the band on friendly terms and was replaced by Martin Mayr.

The Grand Design (2006), their fourth studio album, was recorded at Lanvall's studio Farpoint Station (one of many Star Trek references surrounding Edenbridge) and was released May 19th, 2006. The single "For Your Eyes Only" was released April 21st, featuring the album track "Evermore" and a cover version of the James Bond theme of "For Your Eyes Only" (originally performed by Sheena Easton), the first cover the band have ever recorded.

Edenbridge has signed a world wide deal with Napalm Records and are proud to announce to be part of the Napalm Records family from now on. Also, on January 30, 2007, Edenbridge released a new album titled, "The Grand Design" in the USA and Canada.

On October 11, 2007, Edenbridge revealed the title of their next album: it will be called MyEarthDream and it will be released in April 2008. The album will also feature the Czech Film Orchestra (comprising 65 musicians from the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra and the Czech State Opera Orchestra), with arrangements by Enrique Ugarte.[1]

Nightwish

The Band - Biography
The history of Nightwish

1996

The idea of Nightwish was "born" in July 1996 at midnight when Tuomas was spending a night with his friends around a campfire. The first three songs, which were acoustic mood music, were recorded between October and December 1996. At that time, the band had three members: Tuomas, Tarja and Emppu.

1997

The band wanted to see what the music would sound like if drums were added (Jukka joined the band). Also at this time, the acoustic guitar was replaced with an electric. After a couple of weeks of training, the band went to the studio this was in April 1997. At that time seven songs were recorded. These songs can be found on the limited edition of the album Angels Fall First.
In May 1997, Nightwish signed a recording contract with Spinefarm for two records. That August, the band went to the studio and recorded four new songs. Before the release of Angels Fall First, a single called The Carpenter was released, and made it to number eight on the official singles chart in Finland. Angels Fall First was released in early November and went number 31 on the official album chart in Finland. Nightwish played their first gig in Kitee on the 31st December 1997. After that Nightwish played only seven gigs in the following winter because Jukka and Emppu were in the army and Tarja was busy with her studies. Nightwish and at this time, Spinefarm extended the contract to include three records instead of two.

Leaves' Eyes

Leaves' Eyes are:
Liv Kristine Espenæs Krull - Vocals / Mathias Röderer - Guitar / Thorsten Bauer - Guitar / Chris Lukhaup - Bass / Moritz Neuner - Drums & Percussion / Alexander Krull - Vocals, Programming

World history set to music, seasoned with legends, love and passion – no less could be said about the second Leaves’ Eyes album Vinland Saga. Vocalist Liv Kristine and Co. (a.k.a Atrocity) embark on a mystic journey. Leif Erikson’s legendary voyage to Greenland in 1000 A.D., which consequently ended in America according most historians, is depicted by Leaves’ Eyes through atmospheric Metal, Rock and sensual ballads. It is a story marked by powerful riffs, melody and string arrangements, which represent a colorful bandwidth of musical styles, truly adequate to the very concept of the album itself and never concealing the Nordic origins of the singer. "I found my inspiration for many of the pieces in the Norwegian art and folk music, as well as in Celtic melodies," explains Liv Kristine. She knew from the very beginning that a special approach was needed for such an ambitious musical enterprise: "I absolutely wanted to work with actual classical instruments for Vinland Saga to do this great story justice."

THEATRE IS BACK WITH A NEW TRAGEDIENNE! THE MYSTERY REVEALED!

After the announcement of Theatre of Tragedy parting ways with lead singer Liv Kristine in late August 2003, Theatre of Tragedy decided to withdraw and keep a low profile.
All the while, the song-writing activity was kept steady, and at the same time started the search for a new singer. The search had not lasted very long until a strong candidate emerged, and very soon found a natural position within the band, even before an actual decision was made. The new singer, Nell (origin: Norway), quickly proved a refreshing addition to the group, being honest and outspoken, enthusiastic, and with a general working attitude that further strengthened the band’s internal bonding.
With a strong and temperamental voice, she fit well into the current style of the band, aiming more for a darker atmospheric, brooding and simplified style, rather than the efficient rock/pop song with dense layers of electronics. And although largely lacking the ‘Beauty and the Beast’ contrast of the band’s early recordings, there is still a complementary tension between Nell’s and Raymond’s vocals.

The band is continuously writing new material for its 6th studio album. Recording sessions are planned to commence this coming fall. You can find some sound excerpts of two new songs here.

An exclusive concert at Stavanger’s local rock-club, Checkpoint Charlie, will take place the 19th of June 2004, where the band will perform both old material as well as new and unreleased songs. This will be the debut concert for Nell with Theatre of Tragedy. Check out the concert flyer here.

Brand new Theatre of Tragedy promo pictures can be found here. The photos were taken by Trond Andersen May 2004.
